المنطقة المحيطة بالمسجد اسمها الفسطاط من أفقر أحياء مصر حسب ما رأيت, ما اعرف مسجد غيره لايوجد فيه ضريح. جنوب الفسطاط توجد أحياء مسيحية ويهودية ومعابد وكنائس أيضا, تستحق الزيارة.
