DO. NOT. GO. HERE. Hangzhou Dong (aka East) is 1,000 times nicer, cleaner, and calmer, and is easier to get to by metro AND taxi. And tickets to both are the same price.

Most poorly equipped high-speed railway station I ever been to. Smelly toilets, crowded lounge.

The new station is lovely! HUGE! The taxi queue is still horrendous! I'd say line up a driver. My favorite is Jerry. You can find him here http://www.hangzhoutaxi.com/. Speaks excellent English

The terrorist protection is just for show. If someone really want to bring in some huge knives into the ticket office, then they just can stick them through the exits.
