At Dorsch our favorite program is Playgroup. It is held year round every Thursday from 10:30-Noon. We provide books, puzzles, games and toys for kids to use to learn to interact with each other.

Elizabeth Upham McWebb, lovingly known by most as “Aunt Bett”, is the creator of the “Little Brown Bear” character. For years Mrs. McWebb was the premier storyteller at the Dorsch Memorial Library.

Our Ginko tree has beautiful, fan shaped leaves, which turn yellow in the fall. Dr. Dorsch’s tree is listed in “Michigan Famous and Historic Trees” and continues to thrive in front of Dorsch today.

Dr. Dorsch was a competent and noted physician, as well as a writer, artist, naturalist, and an inventor. He was also interested in politics and was one of the 1st members of the Republican Party.

In 1828 the library collection was quartered in various locations in the city until 1914, when Agusta Uhl Dorsch died and willed her home to the City of Monroe to be used as a public library.
