Amsterdam – a colourful city with a few surprises up its sleeve
Amsterdam is the capital of the Netherlands and one of the most popular cities among tourists.
Every year more than 4.5 million visitors come here to admire the unique architecture, take a walk down the narrow cobbled streets or along canals, visit popular places and places where besides local dishes, you can try marijuana, which is banned in Europe.The main places of interest of Amsterdam are concentrated in the historical centre, where a large number of houses from the Middle Ages have been preserved: such as churches and houses. One of the most remarkable architectural sites is the Royal Palace of Amsterdam, which is situated down the road from Dam Square. The map of the centre is dotted with a network of canals, along which tourist boats and other vessels sail. Your city guide will tell you that the most popular cafes and restaurants are located on the main Damrak street. In addition, it's worth visiting Madame Tussauds, the towers of Schreierstoren and Montelbaanstoren, as well as the Waag, which is already over 500 years old.Extremities in Amsterdam are its coffeeshops. Just don't be deceived by the name, these establishments do not specialise in selling coffee. Coffeeshops legally sell cannabis and cannabis products, annually bringing more than 100 million Euros to the state budget.Public transport in the capital of the Netherlands includes the underground, trams, buses and ferries across the river IJ. The area of the city is small, so many locals ride bicycles, and tourists love renting two-wheelers to get around and see all the places of interest.
